Verse 18. — Why didst Thou bring me forth from the womb? Would that I had been consumed, that no eye might have seen me. 91. This indeed he already uttered in his first discourse, saying: Why did I not die in the womb? He who also adds this which he here subjoins—Verse 19—I should have been as though I had not been, carried from the womb to the tomb—there too he attaches in other words nothing otherwise, saying: I should not have subsisted, but like a hidden untimely birth, or like those who, conceived, saw not the light (Job 3:16). But since we have treated these things at length above (Book IV, no. 48 and following), to avoid wearying the reader we decline to repeat what has been expounded. There follows:
