Verses 15, 16: 'Yet I will argue my ways in His sight, and He Himself shall be my saviour.' 48. He knows not how to spare his own faults, that God may spare him. — Since the Apostle Paul says: 'If we would judge ourselves, we should not indeed be judged' (1 Cor. 11:31), the Lord is then found a saviour, in that our sin is now reproved by our very selves out of the fear of God. Whence all the elect never know how to spare their own faults, that they may be able to find the Judge of faults appeased. And they truly believe that they will afterward find Him a saviour, whom they now strictly dread as judge. For he who now spares himself in fault, is afterward not spared in punishment. Let him say, then: 'Yet I will argue my ways in His sight.'
