Chapter 9. For he said: A man shall not please God, even though he run with him. 43. Pride is ever a stranger to the truth. — That he by no means said this, anyone who reads the words of blessed Job perceives. But he who speaks in order to exalt himself by parading his own worth, what wonder is it if he invents in another something that he may reprove? For how could he cleave to the truth in words of rebuke, whom within himself the swelling of his mind separates far from that same truth? There follows: Verse 10. — Therefore, you men of understanding, hear me.
