VERSE 26. 'He shall pray to God, and He will be favourable unto him.' 9. Christ, praying for us, kindles us to pray. For first he says that the angel entreats, and afterwards the man, because unless the Lord Himself first, through His Incarnation, interceding with the Father, sought our life, our insensibility would never rouse itself to the seeking of those things that are eternal. But the prayer of His Incarnation went before, that the awakening of our torpor might follow. But because after temptations, often after immense bitternesses, the light of truth breaks forth in secret joy to our mind, well of this tempted and praying man it is subjoined:
