For the most part the words of God to us are not the sound of things spoken, but the effect of operations. For He speaks to us in that which He silently works concerning us. Blessed Job, therefore, would contradict the words of God, if he murmured at His strokes. But what he feels concerning his own smiter, he indicates, who (as we have already said) calls Him whom he endures as striker, holy. There follows:
