Verse 18. — 'He shall drive him out of light into darkness.' 26. Eternal punishment receives the glory of the wicked. — He is led from light into darkness when he is condemned from the honour of the present life to eternal torments. Whence it is more plainly added: Ibid. — 'And he shall remove him from the world.' For he is removed from the world when, at the appearing of the Judge on high, he is taken away from this world in which he perversely glories. And because, together with all his followers, at the coming of the end of the world, he is condemned, it is rightly subjoined: Verse 19. — 'His seed shall not be, nor his offspring among his people, nor any remnant in his regions.' For it is written that 'the Lord Jesus shall slay him with the spirit of His mouth, and shall destroy him with the brightness of His coming' (2 Thessalonians

When therefore his iniquity is ended together with the state of the world, his offspring shall not be left among his people, because both he himself and his people are driven together with it to punishment; and all the wicked, who were born of his perverse persuasion into depraved actions, shall be smitten by the brightness of the Lord's coming in eternal destruction together with this their head. And no offspring of his remains in the world, because the strict Judge concludes his iniquities together with the very end of the world. But that these things ought plainly to be understood of Antichrist, is shown when it is subjoined:
