Ver. 17.—'My face is swollen with weeping.' 23. She aids her penitent children with her weeping. Prelates should afflict themselves over others' falls as over their own. For the face of holy Church are those who, placed in positions of governance, appear first, so that from their comeliness may come the honour of the faithful people, even if something unseemly lie hidden in the body. Such prelates assuredly lament to their peoples the faults of the weak, and so afflict themselves over others' falls as over their own. And often, while they see some return to pardon after their faults, but others persist in iniquity, they marvel at the hidden judgments of almighty God, yet cannot penetrate them. For they are astonished at what they do not understand. Whence it is fittingly subjoined:
