Let faith first arm the soldier of God. — To each soul over which the Lord mercifully presides, He grants before all things the fortitude of faith, of which Peter says: 'Your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, goeth about seeking whom he may devour; whom resist ye, strong in faith' (1 Pet. 5:8-9). But to this fortitude a neighing is joined, when there comes to pass what is written: 'With the heart man believeth unto justice, but with the mouth confession is made unto salvation' (Rom. 10:10).
