Same verse. — I have kept His way, and have not turned aside from it. 42. It is the solicitude of the righteous to observe the ways of truth. — He keeps and does not turn aside who works where he directs his intention. To keep, indeed, through intention, is not to turn aside through operation. For this is the solicitude of the righteous: that they daily examine their acts according to the ways of truth, and, setting these before themselves as a rule, do not turn aside from the path of their uprightness. For daily they strive to advance beyond themselves, and, the higher they are borne toward the summit of virtues, they judge with wary reproof whatever of themselves remains beneath themselves out of their own nature, and they hasten to draw the whole of themselves thither, where they find that they have in part arrived.
