Verse 20. — You have strengthened him for a little while, that he might pass on forever. 24. Upon a brief life eternity succeeds. — Man is strengthened for a little while, because here he receives the strengths of living for a short time, that he may pass on forever where no term concludes his life. But in this brevity, in which he is strengthened, he gathers whence in eternity he may find either that he should ever rejoice, or that he should not escape the punishments he has taken on.
