Verse 14. — 'Who said to God: Depart from us.' 50. Those who do not obey God's commandments drive Him away from themselves. — These things not even fools presume to say in words; but nevertheless all the perverse say 'Depart' to God, not in words but in morals. For those who do the things which God almighty forbids, what else do they do than shut their own mind against the Almighty? For just as to ponder His precepts is to introduce Him to oneself, so to resist His commandments is to repel Him from the dwelling of the heart. Therefore they say 'Depart from us,' who refuse to grant Him access to themselves, and assail Him with depraved acts, even if in words they seem to praise Him. They say also:
