Chapter 21, Verse 2. — 'Hear, I pray you, my words, and do penance.' 40. The saints, while they teach rightly, do not fear to be mocked. — For when he who had said 'Hear' added 'I pray you,' he shows with how great humility he speaks, since he entreats those who exalt themselves against him, that he may lead back their understanding to the doctrine of salvation. Now holy men, so long as within the universal Church they are prepared not only to teach what is right but also to bear with what is perverse, do not fear to be mocked. Whence also it is added:
