They who cleave to the powerful wicked man swell with his power.—Since fat is the fatness of flesh, and we are accustomed to call flanks of the rich those whom we perceive to be joined to them, fat hangs down from his flanks, because whoever cleaves to the powerful and wicked man himself also swells from that man's power, as though from the fatness of things—so that, following the iniquity of his perverse patron, he does not fear God; he afflicts the poor whom he can, and as much as he can; he lifts up his heart with temporal glory.
