Verse 4. — And his sons went and made feasts in their houses, each on his own day: and sending, they called their three sisters, that they might eat and drink with them. 9. Though the substance was to be divided among the sons, it did not divide their hearts. — Greater substance among brethren is wont to be the cause of graver discord. O the inestimable praise of the paternal training! Both the father is called rich, and the sons are asserted to be of one accord.
