Gregory to Cyprian, deacon. John, a religious man, the bearer of the present letter, who from the schism of the Istrians has returned to the bosom of the holy Church, God revealing it, upon receiving instruction—it is needful that your Love hold him in all things commended, equity being preserved, and extend to him ecclesiastical protection in whatever his cause shall require. To him also, as a subsidy for his stipend, from this fourteenth indiction, we wish you to give ten solidi each year, which you shall know are to be charged in every respect to your accounts.
