Gregory to Leontius, ex-consul. Knowing that with paternal grace you receive our writings, if we strive to accomplish that thing, there is no doubt that we work your glory of our own accord, because we do not suffer the desires of our sons to be saddened.
And therefore, since our glorious son Apollonius, master of soldiers, the bearer of these presents, wished himself to be commended to you by our letters, saluting your glory with paternal love, we ask that, sound reason being preserved, he may find the favor of your grace, and may obtain the help of your patronage in whatever shall be necessary; so that, while your glory shall have bestowed upon our commendation also those things which of its own accord it is accustomed to bestow, both he himself may rejoice to find in you the wished-for support, and we may return abundant thanks to your most sincere goodness.
