Gregory to Anthemius the subdeacon. We have learned that Benenatus of Misenum denies the crime which he first professed concerning himself by a document in his own hand. And therefore, because the denial of this wickedness needs, as a greater discussion, so also a greater punishment, we command your Experience by the present authority that you send hither, under all caution and speed, the same Benenatus and his accuser, together with the persons of whom he was accused, and all who are read in the little document of accusation, so that the strict truth of this cause may, as is fitting, be able to be examined by inquisition and to be recognized.
