Gregory to Bishop Decius of Lilybaeum. The lady Adeodata, a woman of glory, has by a petitionary appeal suggested to us what is contained below: namely, that within the city of Lilybaeum, in a house of her own right, she has of her own devotion founded from the ground up a monastery of handmaids of God, which she desires to have consecrated in honour of the blessed Peter, chief of the Apostles, and of the holy martyrs of Christ, Laurence, Hermes, Pancratius, Sebastian and Agnes. And therefore, most dear brother, since the aforesaid construction lawfully stands in your city, if it is established that no body has been buried there, once a lawful endowment has first been received,
that is to say, as income, granting free from fiscal tributes ten solidi, three boys, three yoke of oxen, five other slaves to serve in the monastery itself, ten mares, ten cows, four rows of vines, forty sheep, and so forth, according to custom.
