Gregory to Marinianus, bishop of Ravenna. The bearers of the present letter, coming to us from the regions of Istria, have desired, with the Lord's help, to be made subject to the unity of the Church. On account of the praiseworthiness of their desire we received them with affection, and, having first given exhortation concerning the manner of the unity they had attained, we caused them, as was their desire, to serve also our Church. Let Your Fraternity receive them graciously, and freely bestow prayer upon them as need requires; so that, returning to their own homes, they may not be wearied by any harassments of the perverse in the good of their work.
But rather with our most excellent son the exarch see to this the more diligently, that by his commands he may render them secure in all things among those whom it there concerns; so that by their tranquility the minds of others also still set in schism may be stirred up to the grace of conversion.
