Gregory to Arsicinus the duke, to the clergy, the order, and the people of the city of Ariminum. The text of the report sent to us makes plain how ready is the devotion of your Charity in expectation of a bishop. But since one must be most careful in ordaining a bishop, our watchful care in this matter keeps vigil in deliberation. Therefore by these present writings we admonish your Charity that no one should trouble himself to come to us on behalf of the person of Ocleatinus; but if in that same city someone is found suited to this office, such that he cannot be censured by us, let your election concur upon him. But if no one worthy of this is found, we have entrusted to the bearer of these presents the one on whom you likewise ought to bestow your consent.
And do you, being of one mind, pray faithfully, that whoever is to be ordained may both prove useful to you and render to our God a worthy priestly service.
