PETER. I remember who that man was; but, I pray you, let us pursue the matters we have begun. Do we think it profits souls at all if the bodies of the dead are buried in churches? GREGORY. Those whom grave sins do not weigh down, it profits the dead to be buried in a church, in that their kinsfolk, as often as they come together to those same sacred places, when they behold the tombs of their own, remember them and pour out prayers for them to the Lord. But as for those whom grave sins weigh down, their bodies are placed in churches not rather for absolution than for a greater heap of damnation. This we may show better if we briefly relate the things which have been done in our days.
