Gregory to Paschalis, Demetianus, and Castorius, sons of Urbicus the defensor of Tibur. It belongs to our office so to bring counsel to children bereaved of their parents, that, by remitting something of those things which are justly owed to the Church, we may be able to succour their miseries.
Since therefore, an account having been more carefully made, it is established that your father Urbicus, formerly defensor, died a debtor in no small sum from the patrimony of Sabina and of Carsioli, which had been committed to his care; and although his whole substance is on this account bound over to the Church, yet it cannot suffice for satisfaction of those things which he had consumed — we nevertheless, out of regard for piety, permit and grant that you have and possess the substance of that same father of yours, to be beyond all doubt profitable to your interests, secure that no one shall on any grounds again trouble you concerning those things which, by remitting, we have granted to you. In the month of March, in the eleventh indiction.
