Gregory to Eulogius, patriarch of Alexandria. The bearers of these presents, coming to Sicily, have been converted from the error of the Monophysites, and have united themselves to the holy universal Church. Journeying to the church of blessed Peter, chief of the apostles, they besought me that I ought to commend them by my letters to your Beatitude, so that they may not be permitted to suffer any further violence from the heretics who are near to them. And since one of them says that the monastery in which he was had been built by his parents, he desires to receive authority from your Holiness, so that those who are in it, being heretics, either return to the bosom of the holy Church, or are expelled from that same monastery.
Let these things which have been indicated by us to you suffice; for concerning your Beatitude we know that whatever pertains to the zeal of almighty God, you hasten to do with all fervor. But I ask that you pray for me, because amid the swords of the Lombards which I endure, I am also vehemently afflicted by the pains of gout.
