Jacob is my servant; I will uphold him. Israel is my chosen; my soul has accepted him. I have put my spirit upon him; he will bring forth judgment to the nations.
42:2▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
He will not cry out, nor slacken, nor will his voice be heard outside.
42:3▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not quench, but he will bring forth judgment in truth.
42:4▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
He will blaze up and will not be crushed, until he establishes judgment on the earth; and in his name the nations will hope.
42:5▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
Thus says the Lord God, who made the sky and fixed it, who established the earth and the things in it, and who gives breath to the people on it and spirit to those who walk on it:
42:6▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
I, the Lord God, called you in righteousness, and I will take hold of your hand and strengthen you; and I gave you as a covenant to a race, as a light to nations,
42:7▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
to open the eyes of the blind, to bring out from bonds those who are bound, and from the prison house those sitting in darkness.
42:8▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
I am the Lord God; this is my name. My glory I will not give to another, nor my excellences to the carved images.
42:9▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
Behold, the things from the beginning have come, and new things which I will declare; and before they sprang up they were shown to you.
42:10▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
Sing to the Lord a new hymn — his dominion! Glorify his name from the end of the earth, you who go down to the sea and sail upon it, the islands and those who inhabit them.
42:11▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
Rejoice, O wilderness, and its villages, the farmsteads; and those who inhabit Kedar will rejoice. Those who inhabit Petra will shout from the tops of the mountains.

The Lord God of the forces will go out and will shatter war; he will stir up zeal and will shout against his enemies with strength.
42:14▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
I have kept silent — shall I also be silent forever and hold back? I endured like a woman giving birth; I will astonish and will dry up together.
42:15▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
And I will turn rivers into islands, and I will dry up marshes.
42:16▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
And I will lead the blind in a way they did not know, and I will make them tread paths they did not know; I will turn the darkness into light for them and the crooked things into straight. These words I will do, and I will not forsake them.
42:17▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
But they turned back. Be ashamed with shame, you who trust in carved images, who say to the cast images: You are our gods.
42:18▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
You deaf, hear! And you blind, look up to see!
42:19▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
And who is blind but my servants? And deaf but those who rule over them? Even the servants of God have been blinded.
42:20▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
You have seen many times and did not keep watch; the ears were opened, and you did not hear.
42:21▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
The Lord God resolved that he should be justified and magnify praise. And I saw:
42:22▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
And the people became plundered and despoiled; for the snare is everywhere in the storerooms and in the houses together, where they hid them. They became plunder, and there was no one to rescue the spoil, and there was no one saying: Give it back.
42:23▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
Who among you will give ear to these things and listen to what is coming?
42:24▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
Who gave Jacob over to plunder, and Israel to those who despoiled him? Was it not God, against whom they sinned, and they were not willing to walk in his ways nor to hear his law?
42:25▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
And he brought upon them the anger of his wrath, and war overpowered them, and those who set them ablaze all around; and each of them did not know it, nor did they lay it to heart.
