耶利米書 第 31 章

To Moab. Thus said the Lord: Woe to Nabau, for it has perished! Kariathaim has been taken; Amath has been put to shame and defeated.

There is no longer healing for Moab, no boasting in Esebon. They have devised evils against her: We have cut her off from being a nation. And she shall utterly cease; behind you a sword shall walk.

For there is a sound of those crying out from Horonaim: destruction and great ruin.

Moab has been shattered; announce it to Zogora.

For Alaoth has been filled with weeping; one shall go up weeping on the way of Horonaim; you have heard a cry of ruin.

Flee and save your lives, and you shall be like a wild donkey in the wilderness.

Since you trusted in your strongholds, you also shall be captured; and Chamos shall go out into exile, his priests and his rulers together.

And destruction shall come upon every city, and no city shall escape; and the valley shall perish and the plain shall be utterly destroyed, just as the Lord said.

Give signs to Moab, for she shall be set utterly ablaze, and all her cities shall become an untrodden waste. Whence shall she have an inhabitant?

Cursed is he who does the works of the Lord carelessly, who withholds his sword from blood.

Moab has been at ease from childhood, and he was trusting in his glory; he did not pour from vessel to vessel, and he did not go into exile. Therefore his taste remained in him, and his scent did not fail.

Therefore, behold, days are coming, says the Lord, when I will send him tilters, and they shall tilt him; and they shall crush his vessels fine and cut his horns in pieces.

And Moab shall be put to shame because of Chamos, just as the house of Israel was put to shame because of Baithel, their hope, in which they had trusted.

How can you say: We are strong, and a man mighty for warfare?

Moab has perished, his city too; and his choice young men have gone down to the slaughter.

The day of Moab is near to come, and his calamity is exceedingly swift.

Shake your heads for him, all you around him, all you who know his name. Say: How is the glorious staff broken, the rod of greatness!

Come down from glory and sit in the damp, you who dwell in Daibon. Be worn away, for Moab has perished; one who ravages your stronghold has come up against you.

Stand by the way and look, you who dwell in Aroer; and ask him who flees and him who escapes, and say: What has happened?

Moab has been put to shame, for he has been shattered. Howl and cry out; announce in Arnon that Moab has perished.

And judgement is coming to the land of Misor, upon Chailon and upon Iassa and upon Mophath,

and upon Daibon and upon Nabau and upon the house of Deblathaim,

and upon Kariathaim and upon the house of Gamol and upon the house of Maon,

and upon Karioth and upon Bosor and upon all the cities of Moab, those far off and those near.

The horn of Moab has been broken off, and his arm has been shattered.

Make him drunk, for he magnified himself against the Lord. And Moab shall clap with his hand, and he too shall become a laughingstock.

And was not Israel a laughingstock to you? Was he found among your thefts, that you made war against him?

The inhabitants of Moab left the cities and dwelt among the rocks; they became like doves nesting in rocks, at the mouth of a pit.

I have heard the insolence of Moab; he was exceedingly insolent, his insolence and his arrogance; and his heart was lifted up.

But I know his works. Is it not enough for him? He has not acted so.

Therefore howl for Moab from every side; cry out for the men of Kirada of drought.

As with the weeping of Iazer I will weep for you, O vine of Sebema. Your branches passed over the sea of Iazer; they touched your fruit; upon your grape-gatherers destruction has fallen.

Gladness and rejoicing have been swept away from the land of Moab; and there was wine in your winepresses. In the morning they did not tread, nor in the evening did they raise the shout aidad.

From the cry of Esebon as far as Elealē their cities uttered their voice, from Zogor as far as Horonaim and Aglath-salisia; for even the water of Nebrim shall become a burning.

And I will destroy Moab, says the Lord, him who goes up to an altar and burns incense to his gods.

Therefore my heart for Moab shall sound like pipes; my heart for the men of Kirada shall sound like a pipe. Therefore what he had acquired has perished from man.

Every head in every place shall be shaved, and every beard shall be shaved, and all hands shall be gashed, and on every loin sackcloth.

And upon all the housetops of Moab and in her streets; for I have shattered Moab, says the Lord, like a vessel for which there is no need.

How has he changed! How has Moab turned his back! He was put to shame, and Moab became a laughingstock and an object of resentment to all around her.

For thus said the Lord:

Akkarioth has been taken, and the strongholds have been captured.

And Moab shall perish from being a multitude, for he magnified himself against the Lord.

A snare and fear and a pit are upon you, O inhabitant of Moab.

He who flees from before the fear shall fall into the pit, and he who comes up out of the pit shall be caught in the snare; for I will bring these things upon Moab in the year of her visitation.
