創世記 第 39 章

And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Petephres the eunuch of Pharao, the chief cook, an Egyptian man, acquired him from the hand of the Ismaelites who had brought him down there.

And the Lord was with Joseph, and he was a man who prospered; and he was in the house with his Egyptian master.

And his master knew that the Lord was with him, and that whatever he might do, the Lord prospered in his hands.

And Joseph found favour before his master, and he was well-pleasing to him; and he set him over his house, and all that he had he gave into Joseph's hand.

And it happened, after he had set him over his house and over all that he had, that the Lord blessed the house of the Egyptian on account of Joseph; and the blessing of the Lord was upon all his possessions, in the house and in the field.

And he entrusted all that he had into Joseph's hands, and he knew nothing of his own affairs except the bread that he himself ate. And Joseph was handsome in form and very beautiful in appearance.

And it happened after these things that his master's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph, and said, Lie with me.

But he would not, and said to his master's wife, If my master, because of me, knows nothing in his house, and all that he has he has given into my hands,

and there is no one greater in this house than I, nor has anything been kept back from me except you, because you are his wife — how then shall I do this wicked thing and sin before God?

And when she spoke to Joseph day after day, he did not listen to her to sleep with her, to be with her.

And there came such a day: Joseph went into the house to do his work, and no one of those of the house was inside.

And she seized him by his garments, saying, Lie with me. And leaving his garments in her hands, he fled and went outside.

And it happened, when she saw that he had left his garments in her hands and had fled and gone outside,

that she called those who were in the house and said to them, saying, See, he has brought in to us a Hebrew servant to mock us. He came in to me saying, Lie with me; and I cried out with a loud voice.

And when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried out, leaving his garments beside me he fled and went outside.

And she leaves the garments beside herself until the master came to his house.

And she spoke to him according to these words, saying, The Hebrew servant whom you brought in to us came in to me to mock me, and said to me, I will lie with you.

And when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried out, he left his garments beside me and fled and went outside.

And it happened, when his master heard the words of his wife, all that she spoke to him, saying, Thus your servant did to me, that he was kindled with wrath.

And his master took Joseph and cast him into the fortress, into the place where the king's prisoners are kept; and he was there in the fortress.

And the Lord was with Joseph, and poured out mercy upon him, and gave him favour before the chief jailer.

And the chief jailer gave the prison into Joseph's hand, and all who had been led away, as many as were in the prison, and all that they do there.

The chief jailer of the prison knew nothing on account of him, for all things were through Joseph's hand, because the Lord was with him; and whatever he did, the Lord prospered in his hands.
