創世記 第 27 章

And it happened, after Isaac had grown old and his eyes were dimmed from seeing, that he called Esau his elder son and said to him, "My son." And he said, "Here I am."

And he said, "Look, I have grown old, and I do not know the day of my death.

Now then take your gear, both the quiver and the bow, and go out into the plain and hunt game for me,

and make me food such as I love, and bring it to me that I may eat, so that my soul may bless you before I die."

And Rebekah heard Isaac speaking to Esau his son. And Esau went off into the plain to hunt game for his father.

And Rebekah said to Jacob her younger son, "Look, I heard your father speaking to Esau your brother, saying,

'Bring me game and make me food, and when I have eaten I will bless you before the Lord before I die.'

Now then, my son, listen to me in what I command you.

And go to the flock and take for me from there two tender and good kids, and I will make them into food for your father, as he loves.

And you shall bring it in to your father, and he will eat, so that your father may bless you before he dies."

And Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, "Esau my brother is a hairy man, but I am a smooth man.

Suppose my father feels me; then I shall be in his sight as one who scorns him, and I shall bring upon myself a curse and not a blessing."

And his mother said to him, "Upon me be your curse, child; only obey my voice, and go and bring them to me."

So he went and took them and brought them to his mother; and his mother made food, such as his father loved.

And Rebekah took the fine robe of Esau her elder son, which was with her in the house, and clothed Jacob her younger son;

and she put the skins of the kids on his arms and on the bare parts of his neck;

and she put the food and the loaves which she had made into the hands of Jacob her son.

And he brought it in to his father, and said, "Father." And he said, "Here I am; who are you, child?"

And Jacob said to his father, "I am Esau your firstborn; I have done as you told me. Rise, sit up and eat of my game, so that your soul may bless me."

And Isaac said to his son, "What is this that you found so quickly, my child?" And he said, "What the Lord your God delivered up before me."

And Isaac said to Jacob, "Come near to me, and I will feel you, child, whether you are my son Esau or not."

So Jacob came near to Isaac his father, and he felt him and said, "The voice indeed is Jacob's voice, but the hands are Esau's hands."

And he did not recognize him, for his hands were like the hands of Esau his brother, hairy; and he blessed him.

And he said, "Are you my son Esau?" And he said, "I am."

And he said, "Bring it to me and I will eat of your game, child, so that my soul may bless you." And he brought it to him, and he ate; and he brought him wine, and he drank.

And Isaac his father said to him, "Come near to me and kiss me, child."

And he came near and kissed him, and he smelled the smell of his garments, and he blessed him and said, "Look, the smell of my son is like the smell of a full field which the Lord has blessed.

And may God give you of the dew of heaven and of the fatness of the earth, and abundance of grain and wine.

And may nations serve you, and rulers do obeisance to you; and be lord of your brother, and your father's sons shall do obeisance to you. He who curses you is accursed, and he who blesses you is blessed."

And it happened, after Isaac had finished blessing Jacob his son, and it happened just as Jacob went out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from the hunt.

And he also made food and brought it to his father, and said to his father, "Let my father arise and eat of his son's game, so that your soul may bless me."

And Isaac his father said to him, "Who are you?" And he said, "I am your son, the firstborn, Esau."

And Isaac was amazed with an exceedingly great amazement, and said, "Who then was it that hunted game for me and brought it in to me, and I ate of it all before you came, and I blessed him? Indeed, let him be blessed."

And it happened, when Esau heard the words of Isaac his father, he cried out with a loud and exceedingly bitter voice, and said, "Bless me too, father!"

And he said to him, "Your brother came with guile and took your blessing."

And he said, "Rightly was his name called Jacob, for he has supplanted me now this second time: he has taken my rights of the firstborn, and now he has taken my blessing." And Esau said to his father, "Have you not left a blessing for me, father?"

And Isaac answered and said to Esau, "Seeing I have made him your lord and have made all his brothers his household servants, and have sustained him with grain and wine, what then shall I do for you, child?"

And Esau said to his father, "Have you but one blessing, father? Bless me too, father!" And when Isaac was pierced with grief, Esau cried out with a loud voice and wept.

And Isaac his father answered and said to him, "Look, your dwelling shall be of the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of heaven from above.

And you shall live by your sword, and you shall serve your brother. But there will come a time when you shall break loose and loosen his yoke from your neck."

And Esau harboured a grudge against Jacob because of the blessing with which his father had blessed him. And Esau said in his mind, "Let the days of mourning for my father draw near, that I may kill Jacob my brother."

And the words of Esau her elder son were reported to Rebekah. And she sent and called Jacob her younger son and said to him, "Look, Esau your brother is threatening you, to kill you.

Now then, child, listen to my voice, and rise and flee to Mesopotamia, to Laban my brother, to Charran.

And dwell with him for some days, until the rage turns away,

and your brother's anger against you turns away, and he forgets what you have done to him. Then I will send and fetch you from there. Why should I be bereft of the two of you in one day?"

And Rebekah said to Isaac, "I am weary of my life because of the daughters of the sons of Chet. If Jacob takes a wife from the daughters of this land, why should I live?"
