21:1
Then Job answered and says:
21:2
Hear, hear my words, so that this may not be the comfort I get from you.
21:3
Bear with me, and I will speak; and afterward do not mock me.
21:4
For what? Is my complaint against a man? Or why should I not be angry?
21:5
Look at me and be astonished, laying your hand upon your cheek.
21:6
For whenever I remember, I am dismayed, and pains take hold of my flesh.
21:7
Why do the ungodly live, and grow old, and abound in wealth?
21:8
Their seed is according to their soul's desire, and their children are before their eyes.
21:9
Their houses prosper, there is no fear anywhere, and the Lord's scourge is not upon them.
21:10
Their cow does not miscarry; the one that is with calf comes through safely and does not fail.
21:11
They remain like sheep that last forever, and their little ones play about.
21:12
They take up harp and lyre and rejoice at the sound of a song.
21:13
They finish their life in good things, and lie down in the rest of Hades.
21:14
Yet he says to the Lord, 'Depart from me; I do not want to know your ways.'
21:15
What is the Sufficient One, that we should serve him? And what profit is it that we should meet him?
21:16
For their good things were in their own hands, but he does not regard the works of the ungodly.
21:17
Nevertheless the lamp of the ungodly will also be put out, and ruin will come upon them, and pangs from wrath will seize them.
21:18
They will be like chaff before the wind, or like dust that a whirlwind has carried off.
21:19
May his possessions fail his sons; he will repay it to him, and he will know.
21:20
May his own eyes see his own slaughter, and may he not be delivered from the Lord.
21:21
For what pleasure has he in his house after him, when the number of his months has been cut apart?
21:22
Is it not the Lord who teaches understanding and knowledge? And he himself will judge cases of bloodshed.
21:23
這一個死在自己全盛的單純中,通身安逸興旺;
This one dies in the full strength of his simplicity, wholly at ease and prospering;
21:24
His inward parts are full of fat, and his marrow is well moistened.
21:25
But another dies in bitterness of soul, having never eaten anything good.
21:26
Yet together they lie down in the earth, and rottenness covers them.
21:27
So I know you, that you press upon me with boldness.
21:28
For you will say, 'Where is the house of the ruler? And where is the shelter of the tents of the ungodly?'
21:29
Ask those who pass along the road, and you will not disown their tokens.
21:30
For the wicked is spared for the day of destruction; they will be led away for the day of his wrath.
21:31
Who will declare his way to his face? And he has done it—who will repay him?
21:32
And he himself was carried away to the tombs, and a watch was kept over the bier.
21:33
The pebbles of the torrent were sweet to him; every man will go away after him, and before him were those beyond number.
21:34
How then do you comfort me with empty things? And there is nothing in your bringing me to rest.
