Genesis 47

And Joseph came and reported to Pharaoh, saying, My father and my brothers, and their cattle and their oxen and all that is theirs, have come out of the land of Chanaan; and behold, they are in the land of Gesem.

And from among his brothers he took five men and set them before Pharaoh.

And Pharaoh said to Joseph's brothers, What is your occupation? And they said to Pharaoh, Your servants are shepherds of sheep, both we and our fathers.

And they said to Pharaoh, We have come to sojourn in the land, for there is no pasture for your servants' flocks, since the famine has prevailed in the land of Chanaan; now therefore we your servants will dwell in the land of Gesem.

And Pharaoh said to Joseph, Let them dwell in the land of Gesem; and if you know that there are capable men among them, appoint them rulers over my livestock. And Jacob and his sons came into Egypt to Joseph; and Pharaoh king of Egypt heard of it, and Pharaoh said to Joseph, saying, Your father and your brothers have come to you.

Behold, the land of Egypt is before you; settle your father and your brothers in the best land.

And Joseph brought in Jacob his father and set him before Pharaoh, and Jacob blessed Pharaoh.

And Pharaoh said to Jacob, How many are the years of the days of your life?

And Jacob said to Pharaoh, The days of the years of my life, in which I sojourn, are a hundred and thirty years; few and evil have the days of the years of my life been, and they have not reached the days of the years of the life of my fathers, the days they sojourned.

And Jacob blessed Pharaoh and went out from him.

And Joseph settled his father and his brothers, and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best land, in the land of Ramesse, as Pharaoh had commanded.

And Joseph measured out grain to his father and his brothers and all his father's house, grain according to each person.

And there was no grain in all the land, for the famine prevailed exceedingly; and the land of Egypt and the land of Chanaan failed because of the famine.

And Joseph gathered all the silver found in the land of Egypt and in the land of Chanaan, for the grain that they were buying, and he measured out grain to them; and Joseph brought all the silver into the house of Pharaoh.

And all the silver failed out of the land of Egypt and out of the land of Chanaan; and all the Egyptians came to Joseph, saying, Give us bread; why should we die before you? For our silver has failed.

And Joseph said to them, Bring your cattle, and I will give you bread in exchange for your cattle, if your silver has failed.

And they brought their cattle to Joseph, and Joseph gave them bread in exchange for the horses and for the sheep and for the oxen and for the donkeys; and he nourished them with bread in exchange for all their cattle in that year.

And that year came to an end, and they came to him in the second year and said to him, Lest we be destroyed from before our lord; for if the silver has failed, and the possessions and the cattle have gone to you, our lord, then nothing is left for us before our lord but our own bodies and our land.

So that we may not die before you, and the land not be made desolate, buy us and our land for bread; and we and our land will be servants to Pharaoh. Give seed, that we may sow and live and not die, and the land not be made desolate.

And Joseph acquired all the land of the Egyptians for Pharaoh; for the Egyptians sold their land to Pharaoh, because the famine prevailed over them; and the land became Pharaoh's.

And he enslaved the people to him as servants, from one end of the borders of Egypt to the other end.

Only the land of the priests he did not acquire; for Pharaoh gave a gift to the priests as an allowance, and they ate the allowance that Pharaoh gave them; therefore they did not sell their land.

And Joseph said to all the Egyptians, Behold, I have acquired you and your land this day for Pharaoh; take seed for yourselves and sow the land.

And it shall be that of its produce you shall give the fifth part to Pharaoh, and the four parts shall be your own, for seed for the land and for food for you and for all who are in your houses.

And they said, You have saved us; we have found favor before our lord, and we will be servants to Pharaoh.

And Joseph made it a statute for them, until this day, upon the land of Egypt, to give a fifth to Pharaoh; only the land of the priests alone was not Pharaoh's.

And Israel dwelt in the land of Egypt, upon the land of Gesem, and they gained an inheritance in it, and they increased and multiplied exceedingly.

And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years; and the days of Jacob, the years of his life, were a hundred and forty-seven years.

And the days of Israel drew near for him to die, and he called his son Joseph and said to him, If I have found favor before you, put your hand under my thigh, and do mercy and truth to me, not to bury me in Egypt;

but I will sleep with my fathers, and you shall carry me out of Egypt and bury me in their tomb. And he said, I will do according to your word.

And he said, Swear to me. And he swore to him. And Israel bowed in worship upon the top of his staff.
