And the Lord said to Moses, saying, "Go in to Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart and that of his attendants, so that these signs might come upon them one after another,
so that you may recount in the ears of your children, and to the children of your children, how many things I have mocked the Egyptians with, and my signs that I did among them; and you shall know that I am the Lord."
So Moses and Aaron went in before Pharaoh and said to him, “Thus says the Lord, the God of the Hebrews: How long will you refuse to be abashed before me? Send my people away, so that they may serve me.”
And it will cover the face of the earth, and you will not be able to look upon the land; and it will devour everything left over of the land, which the hail left for you, and it will devour every tree that grows for you upon the land.
And your houses shall be filled, and the houses of your attendants, and all the houses in the whole land of the Egyptians—such as your fathers have never seen, nor their great-grandfathers, from the day they came to be upon the earth until this day.” And Moses turned away and went out from Pharaoh.
And Pharaoh’s attendants say to him, “How long shall this be a stumbling block to us? Send the men away, so that they may serve their God. Or do you wish to know that Egypt has perished?”
And Moses says, “We will go with the young men and the elders, with our sons and daughters and our sheep and cattle; for it is a feast of the Lord our God.”
And the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt, and let the locusts come up upon the land and devour every herb of the land and all the fruit of the trees which the hail left behind.”
And Moses lifted up his rod toward heaven, and the Lord brought a south wind upon the land all that day and all that night. Morning came, and the south wind carried up the locusts.
And it brought them up over all the land of Egypt, and they settled upon all the borders of Egypt, exceedingly many. Before them no such locust swarm had ever been, and after these things there will not be such again.
And they covered the face of the earth, and the land was ruined; and they devoured every herb of the land and all the fruit of the trees that was left over from the hail. Nothing green was left on the trees or among any herb of the plain in all the land of Egypt.
And the Lord changed the wind to a violent one from the sea, and it took up the locusts and cast them into the Red Sea; and not one locust was left in all the land of Egypt.
And for three days no one saw his brother, and for three days no one rose up from his bed; but for all the sons of Israel there was light in all the places where they were staying.
And Pharaoh called Moses and Aaron, saying, “Go, serve the Lord your God; only leave behind your sheep and your cattle, and let your household go along with you.”
And our livestock shall go with us; not a hoof shall we leave behind, for from them we shall take to serve the Lord our God. But we ourselves do not know with what we shall serve the Lord our God until we come there.”
