📖 This chapter exists in 3 other originals — side by side (Hebrew Old Testament, Vulgate, Ge'ez Bible)
ℹ️ This corpus has no verse-level morphological tagging. Lemmas come mainly from word-level tagging of other books in the same language (not from this verse), falling back to dictionary form-matching for the rest. Rare homographs can still be misread; verify against the original and a specialist lexicon where precision matters.
ℹ️ The Chinese and English alongside are this site's own translation, made directly from the original text on this page (not the CUV or the WEB, which follow the Masoretic Text and a different textual tradition).

Then Baldad the Sauchite answered and says:

8:2
"How long will you speak these things? The breath of your mouth is full of words.
Will the Lord be unjust in judging, or will he who made all things pervert what is just?
If your sons sinned before him, he sent them away into the hand of their own lawlessness.
But rise early to the Lord Almighty, making supplication.
If you are pure and true, he will hearken to your supplication, and will restore to you a dwelling of righteousness.
Then your beginning will be small, but your latter end will be beyond telling.
For inquire of the former generation, and search out according to the race of the fathers.
For we are of yesterday and know nothing, for our life upon the earth is a shadow.
Will they not teach you and tell you, and bring forth words out of the heart?
Does the papyrus flourish without water, or will the reed grow tall without drink?
While it is still upon its root and not yet reaped, before drinking, does not every plant wither?
So then shall be the end of all who forget the Lord; for the hope of the ungodly shall perish.
For his house will be uninhabited, and his tent will turn out to be a spider's web.
If he props up his house, it will not stand; and when he takes hold of it, it will not endure.
For he is moist under the sun, and his tender shoot will come forth out of his rottenness.
He sleeps upon a heap of stones, and in the midst of gravel he shall live.

8:18
If the place swallows him up, it will deny him; have you not seen such things?
For such is the overthrow of the ungodly one; and out of the earth he will make another spring up.
For the Lord will by no means reject the guileless man, nor will he accept any gift from an ungodly man.
But he will fill the mouth of the truthful with laughter, and their lips with thanksgiving.
But their enemies shall clothe themselves with shame, and the dwelling of the ungodly shall be no more.
