📖 This chapter exists in 3 other originals — side by side (Hebrew Old Testament, Vulgate, Ge'ez Bible)
ℹ️ This corpus has no verse-level morphological tagging. Lemmas come mainly from word-level tagging of other books in the same language (not from this verse), falling back to dictionary form-matching for the rest. Rare homographs can still be misread; verify against the original and a specialist lexicon where precision matters.
ℹ️ The Chinese and English alongside are this site's own translation, made directly from the original text on this page (not the CUV or the WEB, which follow the Masoretic Text and a different textual tradition).

14:1
For a mortal born of a woman is short-lived and full of wrath.
Or like a flower that blooms and falls; he flees away like a shadow and will not stand still.
Have you not taken account even of him, and made him enter into judgement before you?
For who shall be clean from filth? Not one.
Even if his life on earth is but one day, his months are numbered with you; you have appointed a limit, and he will not pass beyond it.
Depart from him, that he may rest and take pleasure in his life like a hired labourer.
For there is hope for a tree: if it is cut down, it will bloom again, and its shoot will not fail.
For though its root grows old in the ground, and its trunk dies in the rock,
at the scent of water it will bloom and produce a harvest like a newly planted tree.
But a man dies and is gone; a mortal falls and is no more.
For in time the sea runs low, and a river laid waste dries up.
But a man who has lain down will not rise until the heaven is no longer sewn together; and they will not be awakened out of their sleep.
Would that you had kept me in Hades, and hidden me until your anger should cease, and appointed me a time in which you would remember me.
For if a man dies, he will live; when I have completed the days of my life, I will wait until I come to be again.
Then you will call, and I will answer you; do not reject the works of your hands.
You have numbered my practices, and not one of my sins will escape you.
You have sealed up my lawless deeds in a bag, and you have marked down whatever I transgressed unwillingly.
Yet a falling mountain crumbles away, and a rock wears old out of its place.
Waters wear the stones smooth, and floodwaters sweep away the surface soil of the earth; and you destroyed the endurance of man.
You thrust him away utterly, and he was gone; you set your face against him and sent him away.
Though his sons become many, he does not know it; and if they become few, he is not aware.
Only his own flesh was in pain, and his own soul mourned.
