ℹ️ This corpus has no verse-level morphological tagging. Lemmas come mainly from word-level tagging of other books in the same language (not from this verse), falling back to dictionary form-matching for the rest. Rare homographs can still be misread; verify against the original and a specialist lexicon where precision matters.
ℹ️ The Chinese and English alongside are this site's own translation, made directly from the original text on this page (not the CUV or the WEB, which follow the Masoretic Text and a different textual tradition).
And Trypho said: 'Be well assured that our whole race awaits the Christ, and that we acknowledge all the Scriptures you have cited were spoken concerning Him. And as for the fact that the name Jesus has put me to shame—having been given as a surname to the son of Nun—I confess that I am inclined to yield on this point too.'
'But whether the Christ was indeed to be crucified so dishonorably, we are at a loss; for cursed is he who is crucified, the law says. So on this point I am still hard to persuade. That the Christ was to be subject to suffering, the Scriptures plainly proclaim; but whether it was through the suffering accursed in the law, we wish to learn—if you can demonstrate this also.'
'If the Christ were not to suffer,' I said to him, 'and if the prophets had not foretold that He would be led away to death because of the lawless deeds of the people, and would be dishonored and scourged and reckoned among the lawless, and would be led as a sheep to the slaughter—whose generation, the prophet says, no one can declare—then it would be reasonable to wonder. But if this is the very thing that characterizes Him and reveals Him to all, how should we not also have boldly believed in Him? And all who have understood the words of the prophets will say it is this One, and no other, if only they hear that this is the One who was crucified.'
