ℹ️ This corpus has no verse-level morphological tagging. Lemmas come mainly from word-level tagging of other books in the same language (not from this verse), falling back to dictionary form-matching for the rest. Rare homographs can still be misread; verify against the original and a specialist lexicon where precision matters.
ℹ️ The Chinese and English alongside are this site's own translation, made directly from the original text on this page (not the CUV or the WEB, which follow the Masoretic Text and a different textual tradition).
'To whom then,' I said, 'could one still resort as a teacher, or from where might one be helped, if the truth is not even in these men?' 'There existed, long ago, men far more ancient than all those reputed philosophers—blessed and righteous and beloved of God, who spoke by the divine Spirit and foretold the things to come, which are now coming to pass; they are called prophets. These alone both saw and proclaimed the truth to men, neither reverencing nor dreading anyone, not overcome by any desire for glory, but speaking only those things which they heard and saw when filled with the Holy Spirit.'
'Their writings remain even now, and it is possible for one who consults them to be greatly helped, both concerning first principles and concerning the end, and concerning the things the philosopher ought to know—provided he believes them. For they did not then compose their discourses with demonstration, since they were, as witnesses of the truth, worthy of belief above all demonstration; and the events that have come to pass and are coming to pass compel assent to the things spoken through them.'
'And indeed, also on account of the mighty works which they performed, they were worthy of belief, since they glorified the Maker of all things, God and Father, and proclaimed His Christ who came from Him to be His Son—which the false prophets, filled with the spirit of error and uncleanness, neither did nor do; rather, they dare to work certain powers to astound men, and they glorify the spirits of error and the demons. But pray, above all, that the gates of light may be opened to you; for these things are not to be seen or understood by all, unless God and His Christ grant one to understand.'
