← ch. 26ch. 28 →
📖 This chapter exists in 3 other originals — side by side (Hebrew Old Testament, Vulgate, Ge'ez Bible)
ℹ️ This corpus has no verse-level morphological tagging. Lemmas come mainly from word-level tagging of other books in the same language (not from this verse), falling back to dictionary form-matching for the rest. Rare homographs can still be misread; verify against the original and a specialist lexicon where precision matters.
ℹ️ The Chinese and English alongside are this site's own translation, made directly from the original text on this page (not the CUV or the WEB, which follow the Masoretic Text and a different textual tradition).

27:1
Do not boast about the things of tomorrow, for you do not know what the coming day will bring forth.
Let your neighbor praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips.
A stone is heavy and sand hard to carry, but a fool's anger is heavier than both.
Wrath is merciless and anger is sharp, but jealousy withstands no one.
Reproofs that are uncovered are better than friendship that is hidden.
The wounds of a friend are more trustworthy than the willing kisses of an enemy.
A soul that is full mocks at honeycombs, but to a needy soul even bitter things appear sweet.
As when a bird flies down away from its own nest, so a man is enslaved when he is made a stranger to his own places.
The heart delights in ointments and wines and incense, but the soul is broken by misfortunes.
Do not forsake your friend or your father's friend, and do not enter your brother's house when you are in trouble. A friend near at hand is better than a brother dwelling far away.
Become wise, son, that my heart may rejoice, and turn away from yourself words that bring reproach.
The shrewd man hid himself when evils were coming, but fools, having gone on into them, will pay the loss.
Take away his garment, for an insolent man has passed by, one who ruins what belongs to others.
Whoever blesses a friend early in the morning with a loud voice will seem to differ in nothing from one who curses.
Drops of rain drive a man out of his house on a wintry day; likewise a railing wife drives him out of his own house.
The north wind is a harsh wind, yet by name it is called favorable.
Iron sharpens iron, and a man sharpens the face of his companion.
He who plants a fig tree will eat its fruits, and he who guards his own master will be honored.
As faces are not alike to faces, so neither are the hearts of men.
Hades and destruction are never filled; likewise the eyes of men are insatiable. An abomination to the Lord is one who fixes his eye, and the undisciplined are unrestrained in tongue.
A crucible for silver and firing for gold, and a man is tested through the mouth of those who praise him. The heart of a lawless man seeks out evils, but an upright heart seeks out knowledge.
Though you flog a fool in the midst of the assembly, dishonoring him, you will not take away his folly.
Know well the souls of your flock, and set your heart upon your herds.
For might and strength are not for a man forever, nor does he hand them on from generation to generation.
Take care of the green growth in the plain, and you will shear grass, and gather mountain hay.
that you may have sheep for clothing; honor the field, that you may have lambs.
Son, you have from me strong sayings for your life and for the life of your servants.
