📖 This chapter exists in 3 other originals — side by side (Hebrew Old Testament, Vulgate, Ge'ez Bible)
ℹ️ This corpus has no verse-level morphological tagging. Lemmas come mainly from word-level tagging of other books in the same language (not from this verse), falling back to dictionary form-matching for the rest. Rare homographs can still be misread; verify against the original and a specialist lexicon where precision matters.
ℹ️ The Chinese and English alongside are this site's own translation, made directly from the original text on this page (not the CUV or the WEB, which follow the Masoretic Text and a different textual tradition).

26:1
As dew in harvest and as rain in summer, so honor is not for a fool.
As birds fly away and sparrows too, so a groundless curse will come upon no one.
As a whip for a horse and a goad for a donkey, so a rod for a lawless nation.
Do not answer a fool according to that one's folly, lest you become like him.
But answer a fool according to his folly, lest he seem wise in his own eyes.
He who sends a word by a foolish messenger will drink reproach from his own feet.
Take away the going of the legs, and a proverb from the mouth of fools.
He who binds a stone in a sling is like one who gives glory to a fool.
Thorns grow in the hand of a drunkard, and slavery in the hand of fools.
All the flesh of fools is much storm-tossed, for their frenzy is shattered.
As a dog when it returns to its own vomit and becomes hateful, so is a fool who by his own wickedness turns back to his own sin. There is a shame that brings on sin, and there is a shame that is glory and grace.
I have seen a man who thought himself to be wise; yet a fool has more hope than he.
The sluggard, when sent on a road, says, 'There is a lion in the roads.'
As a door turns on its hinge, so does a sluggard on his bed.
The sluggard, having hidden his hand in his bosom, will not be able to bring it to his mouth.
The sluggard seems to himself wiser than one who brings back a message in abundance.
As one who grabs a dog by the tail, so is he who takes charge of another's lawsuit.
As healers throw out words to men, and he who first meets the word will be tripped up.
So are all who lie in wait for their own friends; and when they are found out they say, 'I did it in play.'
With much wood a fire flourishes, but where there is no double-minded man, strife is quieted.
A hearth for coals and wood for fire, and a railing man for the stirring up of strife.
The words of knaves are soft, but these strike into the inner chambers of the bowels.
Silver given with deceit is to be reckoned as a potsherd; smooth lips cover a grievous heart.
An enemy, weeping aloud, assents to everything with his lips, but in his heart he contrives deceits.
If your enemy entreats you with a loud voice, do not be persuaded, for there are seven wicked things in his soul.
He who hides enmity sets up deceit, but he uncovers his own sins, being well known in the assemblies.
He who digs a pit for his neighbor will fall into it, and he who rolls a stone rolls it upon himself.
A lying tongue hates truth, and an unguarded mouth makes disturbances.
