And there was a helmet upon his head, and he was clothed with a coat of chain mail; and the weight of his breastplate was five thousand shekels of bronze and iron.
And he stood and cried out to the array of Israel and said to them, Why do you come out to draw up for battle opposite us? Am I not a Philistine, and you Hebrews of Saul? Choose for yourselves a man, and let him come down to me.
And if he is able to fight against me, and if he strikes me, then we will be your servants; but if I prevail and strike him, you shall be our servants and shall serve us.
And Saul said to David, You will not be able to go against the Philistine to fight with him, for you are a lad, and he has been a man of war from his youth.
And David said to Saul, Your servant was shepherding for his father among the flock; and whenever the lion came, or the bear, and took a sheep out of the herd,
I went out after it and struck it and pulled the sheep out of its mouth; and if it rose up against me, I seized it by the throat and struck it and killed it.
Your servant used to strike both the bear and the lion; and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them. Shall I not go and strike him and take away today the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised one, who has defied the army of the living God?
The Lord who delivered me out of the hand of the lion and out of the hand of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this uncircumcised Philistine. And Saul said to David, Go, and the Lord shall be with you.
And he girded David with his sword over his mantle; and he grew weary after walking once and twice. And David said to Saul, I cannot go in these, for I am not used to them. And they take them off him.
And he took his staff in his hand, and chose for himself five smooth stones out of the wadi, and put them in the shepherd's vessel that he had for gathering; and his sling was in his hand, and he drew near to the Philistine man.
And the Philistine said to David, Am I like a dog, that you come against me with a staff and stones? And David said, No, but worse than a dog. And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
And David said to the Philistine, You come to me with sword and with spear and with shield, but I come to you in the name of the Lord Sabaoth, the God of the battle line of Israel, which you have reviled today.
And the Lord will shut you up today into my hand, and I will kill you and take your head from you; and I will give your carcass and the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines this day to the birds of the heaven and to the wild beasts of the earth. And all the earth shall know that there is a God in Israel.
And all this assembly shall know that the Lord does not save by sword and spear, for the war is the Lord's, and the Lord will deliver you into our hands.
And David stretched out his hand to the vessel and took from there one stone, and slung it and struck the Philistine on his forehead; and the stone went through the helmet into his forehead, and he fell upon his face upon the ground.
And David ran and stood over him and took his sword and put him to death and took off his head. And the Philistines saw that their mighty man was dead, and they fled.
And the men of Israel and Judah arose and shouted and pursued after them as far as the entrance of Geth and as far as the gate of Ascalon. And the wounded of the Philistines fell in the way of the gates, both as far as Geth and as far as Akkaron.
