ℹ️ This corpus has no verse-level morphological tagging. Lemmas come mainly from word-level tagging of other books in the same language (not from this verse), falling back to dictionary form-matching for the rest. Rare homographs can still be misread; verify against the original and a specialist lexicon where precision matters.
ℹ️ The Chinese and English alongside are this site's own translation, made directly from the original text on this page (not the CUV or the WEB, which follow the Masoretic Text and a different textual tradition).

17:5
Cursed is the man who has his hope in man, and who will make the flesh of his arm his support, and whose heart turns away from the Lord.
And he shall be like the wild tamarisk in the wilderness; he shall not see when good things come; and he shall dwell among saltwort, and in a wilderness, in a salty land that is not inhabited.
And blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and the Lord shall be his hope.
And he shall be like a tree flourishing beside waters, and it shall cast its roots toward moisture; and it shall not fear when heat comes, and there shall be on it leafy boughs; in a year of drought it shall not fear, nor shall it cease bearing fruit.
The heart is deep beyond all things, and it is man; and who shall know it?
I the Lord examine hearts and test kidneys, to give to each one according to his ways and according to the fruits of his practices.
A partridge called out; it gathered what it did not bear — so is one who makes his riches not with justice. In the half of his days they shall forsake him, and at his end he shall be a fool.
A throne of glory, exalted, is our sanctuary.
O Lord, the endurance of Israel, let all who forsake you be put to shame; let those who turn away be written on the earth, because they have forsaken the fountain of life, the Lord.
Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved; for you are my boast.
Behold, they themselves say to me: Where is the word of the Lord? Let it come!
But I have not grown weary in following after you, and I have not desired a day of man; you know that what comes out through my lips is before your face.
Do not become an estrangement to me; spare me in an evil day.
Let those who persecute me be put to shame, but let me not be put to shame; let them be dismayed, but let me not be dismayed. Bring upon them an evil day; with a double destruction destroy them.
Thus says the Lord: Go and stand in the gates of the sons of your people, through which the kings of Judah come in and through which they go out, and in all the gates of Jerusalem.
And you shall say to them: Hear the word of the Lord, kings of Judah and all Judea and all Jerusalem, you who enter in by these gates.
Thus says the Lord: Guard your souls, and do not carry burdens on the day of the sabbaths, and do not go out by the gates of Jerusalem.
And do not carry burdens out of your houses on the day of the sabbaths, and you shall do no work; sanctify the day of the sabbaths, just as I commanded your fathers. But they did not listen, and they did not incline their ear.
And they stiffened their neck more than their fathers, so as not to listen to me and not to receive instruction.
And it shall be, if you indeed listen to me, says the Lord, so as not to bring burdens in through the gates of this city on the day of the sabbaths, and to sanctify the day of the sabbaths so as to do no work,
then there shall enter in through the gates of this city kings and rulers sitting on the throne of David and mounted on chariots and on their horses, they and their rulers, the men of Judah and those who dwell in Jerusalem; and this city shall be inhabited forever.
And they shall come from the cities of Judah and from around Jerusalem and from the land of Benjamin and from the lowland and from the hill country and from the region toward the south, bringing whole burnt offerings and sacrifice and incense and manaa and frankincense, bringing praise into the house of the Lord.
But it shall be, if you do not listen to me so as to sanctify the day of the sabbaths, so as not to carry burdens and not to come in by the gates of Jerusalem on the day of the sabbaths, then I will kindle a fire in her gates, and it shall devour the streets of Jerusalem, and it shall not be quenched.
