and command them, saying: Take up from the midst of the Jordan twelve ready stones, and carry these along with you and set them down in your encampment, wherever you encamp there for the night.
and said to them: Come forward before me, before the face of the Lord, into the midst of the Jordan, and let each one take up a stone from there and lift it upon his shoulders, according to the number of the twelve tribes of Israel,
then you shall declare to your son, saying: Because the river Jordan failed before the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth when it crossed it. And these stones shall be for you a memorial to the sons of Israel forever.
And the sons of Israel did so, just as the Lord commanded Joshua; and taking twelve stones from the midst of the Jordan, just as the Lord had directed Joshua, at the completion of the crossing of the sons of Israel, they carried them along with themselves into the camp and laid them down there.
And Joshua also set up another twelve stones in the Jordan itself, in the place that came to be under the feet of the priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord; and they are there to this day.
And the priests who carried the ark of the covenant stood in the Jordan until Joshua had finished all that the Lord commanded to be announced to the people. And the people hurried and crossed over.
And the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh crossed over in array ahead of the sons of Israel, just as Moses commanded them.
And it came to pass when the priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord came up out of the Jordan and set their feet upon the land, that the water of the Jordan rushed back to its place and flowed as before, along the whole of its bank.
And the people came up out of the Jordan on the tenth of the first month, and the sons of Israel encamped in Galgala, in the district toward the rising of the sun from Jericho.
when the Lord our God dried up the water of the Jordan from before them until they crossed over, just as the Lord our God did to the Red Sea, which the Lord our God dried up before us until we passed over,
