And remember him who created you in the days of your youth, before the days of evil come and the years draw near in which you will say, 'I have no pleasure in them.'
12:2▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
Before the sun and the light and the moon and the stars are darkened, and the clouds return after the rain.
12:3▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
In the day when the keepers of the house tremble, and the men of strength are bent, and the grinding women cease because they are few, and those who look through the openings grow dark.
12:4▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
And they shut the doors in the marketplace, when the sound of the grinding is faint; and one rises at the sound of the sparrow, and all the daughters of song are brought low.
12:5▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
And they will also look from a height, and terrors are in the way; and the almond tree blossoms, and the locust grows fat, and the caper berry is scattered; for man goes to his eternal house, and the mourners circle about in the marketplace.
12:6▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
Before the silver cord is overturned, and the golden flower-work is crushed, and the pitcher is shattered at the spring, and the wheel runs down onto the cistern.
12:7▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
And the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.
12:8▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
Vanity of vanities, said the Ecclesiast, all is vanity.
12:9▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
And beyond this, because the Ecclesiast was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; and an ear will trace out the ordering of proverbs.
12:10▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
The Ecclesiast sought much to find words of delight, and a writing of uprightness, words of truth.
12:11▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
The words of the wise are like goads, and like nails firmly planted, which were given from the collections by one shepherd; and beyond them there is more.
12:12▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
My son, be careful about making many books, there is no end to it; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.
12:13▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
The end of the matter, the whole of it is heard: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is every man.
12:14▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
For God will bring every work into judgment, in everything that has been overlooked, whether good or whether evil.
