6:1
ἔστιν πονηρία ἣν εἶδον ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον καὶ πολλή ἐστιν ἐπὶ τὸν ἄνθρωπον
我見日光之下有一宗惡事，重壓在人身上。
There is an evil that I saw under the sun, and it lies heavy upon mankind.
6:2
ἀνήρ ᾧ δώσει αὐτῷ ὁ θεὸς πλοῦτον καὶ ὑπάρχοντα καὶ δόξαν καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν ὑστερῶν τῇ ψυχῇ αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ πάντων ὧν ἐπιθυμήσει καὶ οὐκ ἐξουσιάσει αὐτῷ ὁ θεὸς τοῦ φαγεῖν ἀπ’ αὐτοῦ ὅτι ἀνὴρ ξένος φάγεται αὐτόν τοῦτο ματαιότης καὶ ἀρρωστία πονηρά ἐστιν
就是有人蒙神賜他資財、豐富、尊榮，以致他心裡所願的一樣都不缺；神卻不使他有權柄從中吃用，反有外人來享用。這是虛空，是惡苦的病患。
A man to whom God gives riches and possessions and honor, so that he lacks nothing for his soul of all that he desires, yet God does not empower him to eat of it, but a stranger eats it. This is vanity and an evil sickness.
6:3
ἐὰν γεννήσῃ ἀνὴρ ἑκατὸν καὶ ἔτη πολλὰ ζήσεται καὶ πλῆθος ὅ τι ἔσονται ἡμέραι ἐτῶν αὐτοῦ καὶ ψυχὴ αὐτοῦ οὐκ ἐμπλησθήσεται ἀπὸ τῆς ἀγαθωσύνης καί γε ταφὴ οὐκ ἐγένετο αὐτῷ εἶπα ἀγαθὸν ὑπὲρ αὐτὸν τὸ ἔκτρωμα
人若生一百個兒子，又活了許多歲數，以致他的年日甚多，他的魂卻不得滿享福樂，又不得埋葬；我說，那未到期而落的胎比他倒好。
If a man begets a hundred children and lives many years, so that the days of his years are many, yet his soul is not satisfied with good, and he also has no burial—I say that a stillborn child is better off than he.
6:4
ὅτι ἐν ματαιότητι ἦλθεν καὶ ἐν σκότει πορεύεται καὶ ἐν σκότει ὄνομα αὐτοῦ καλυφθήσεται
因為它在虛空中而來，在黑暗中而去，它的名字也被黑暗遮蔽。
For it comes in vanity and goes in darkness, and in darkness its name is covered.
6:5
καί γε ἥλιον οὐκ εἶδεν καὶ οὐκ ἔγνω ἀνάπαυσις τούτῳ ὑπὲρ τοῦτον
它也未曾見過日頭，也未曾知道甚麼；這一個比那一個倒有安息。
It has not even seen the sun nor known anything; this one has more rest than that one.
6:6
καὶ εἰ ἔζησεν χιλίων ἐτῶν καθόδους καὶ ἀγαθωσύνην οὐκ εἶδεν μὴ οὐκ εἰς τόπον ἕνα τὰ πάντα πορεύεται
縱然他活了千年的歲月，卻未曾見過福樂——一切豈不都歸一處麼？
And even if he lived the span of a thousand years but has not seen good—do not all things go to one place?
6:7
πᾶς μόχθος τοῦ ἀνθρώπου εἰς στόμα αὐτοῦ καί γε ἡ ψυχὴ οὐ πληρωθήσεται
人一切的勞碌都為口腹，他的魂卻不得滿足。
All a man’s toil is for his mouth, yet the soul is not filled.
6:8
ὅτι τίς περισσεία τῷ σοφῷ ὑπὲρ τὸν ἄφρονα διότι ὁ πένης οἶδεν πορευθῆναι κατέναντι τῆς ζωῆς
智慧人比愚昧人有甚麼益處呢？因為貧窮人也知道怎樣在人生面前行走。
For what advantage has the wise man over the fool, since the poor man knows how to walk in the face of life?
6:9
ἀγαθὸν ὅραμα ὀφθαλμῶν ὑπὲρ πορευόμενον ψυχῇ καί γε τοῦτο ματαιότης καὶ προαίρεσις πνεύματος
眼睛所見的，勝過魂所遊蕩追尋的。這也是虛空，都是風的抉擇。
Better is the sight of the eyes than the wandering of the soul. This too is vanity and a choice of wind.
6:10
εἴ τι ἐγένετο ἤδη κέκληται ὄνομα αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐγνώσθη ὅ ἐστιν ἄνθρωπος καὶ οὐ δυνήσεται τοῦ κριθῆναι μετὰ τοῦ ἰσχυροῦ ὑπὲρ αὐτόν
凡已有的，早已起了名，也已知道他不過是人；他不能與比自己強壯的爭辯。
Whatever has come to be, its name has already been called, and it is known what a man is; and he cannot contend in judgment with one stronger than he.
6:11
ὅτι εἰσὶν λόγοι πολλοὶ πληθύνοντες ματαιότητα τί περισσὸν τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ
話語既多，虛空也就加增；這於人有甚麼益處呢？
For there are many words that multiply vanity; what advantage is there for man?
6:12
ὅτι τίς οἶδεν τί ἀγαθὸν τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ ἐν τῇ ζωῇ ἀριθμὸν ἡμερῶν ζωῆς ματαιότητος αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐποίησεν αὐτὰς ἐν σκιᾷ ὅτι τίς ἀπαγγελεῖ τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ τί ἔσται ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον
誰知道人在他一生虛空的年日中，甚麼於他有益呢？他使這些年日如影兒度過。人身後在日光之下要有甚麼事，誰能告訴他呢？
For who knows what is good for a man in life, for the number of the days of his vain life? And he has made them pass in a shadow. For who can tell a man what will be after him under the sun?
