And these are the ones who came to David at Soklag, while he was still restrained because of Saul son of Kis; and these were among the mighty men who helped in battle.
They used the bow with the right hand and with the left, and they were slingers with stones and with bows; they were of the brothers of Saul, from Benjamin.
And from the Gadites men separated themselves to David from the wilderness, strong and mighty men, men of battle array, bearing shields and spears; and their faces were the face of a lion, and they were swift as gazelles upon the mountains in speed.
These are the ones who crossed the Jordan in the first month, when it had overflowed all its banks; and they drove out all who dwelt in the valleys, from east to west.
And David went out to meet them and said to them, If you have come to me for peace, may my heart be one with you; but if to hand me over to my enemies, there being no wrong in my hand, may the God of our fathers see it and bring reproof.
And the Spirit clothed Amasai, chief of the thirty, and he said, Go, you and your people, O David son of Jessai! Peace, peace to you, and peace to those who help you, for your God has helped you. And David received them and appointed them chiefs of the forces.
And some from Manasse went over to David when the Philistines came against Saul for battle; but he did not help them, for it was resolved in counsel by the commanders of the Philistines, who said, With the heads of those men he will return to his lord Saul.
As he was going to Soklag, there went over to him from Manasse: Edna and Jozabath and Jodiel and Michael and Josabeth and Elimouth and Selathi, who are chiefs of thousands of Manasse.
And these are the names of the chiefs of the army who came to David at Chebron to turn the kingdom of Saul over to him, according to the word of the Lord.
And of the sons of Issachar, men who had understanding for the times, knowing what Israel should do: two hundred for their chiefs, and all their brothers with them.
All these were men of war, drawn up in battle array with a peaceable soul; and they came to Chebron to make David king over all Israel; and the rest of Israel were of one soul to make David king.
And those who bordered on them, as far as Issachar and Zabulon and Nephthali, brought them on camels and on donkeys and on mules and on oxen food: flour, cakes of figs, raisins, wine and oil, oxen and sheep in abundance; for there was gladness in Israel.
