Respondens autem Eliphaz Themanites , dixit :
Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered,
提幔人以利法回答說:

Numquid sapiens respondebit quasi in ventum loquens , et implebit ardore stomachum suum ?
“Should a wise man answer with vain knowledge, and fill himself with the east wind?
智慧人豈可用虛空的知識回答, 用東風充滿肚腹呢?
15:3▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
Arguis verbis eum qui non est aequalis tibi , et loqueris quod tibi non expedit .
Should he reason with unprofitable talk, or with speeches with which he can do no good?
他豈可用無益的話 和無濟於事的言語理論呢?

Quantum in te est , evacuasti timorem , et tulisti preces coram Deo .
Yes, you do away with fear, and hinder devotion before God.
你是廢棄敬畏的意, 在上帝面前阻止敬虔的心。

Docuit enim iniquitas tua os tuum , et imitaris linguam blasphemantium .
For your iniquity teaches your mouth, and you choose the language of the crafty.
你的罪孽指教你的口; 你選用詭詐人的舌頭。

Condemnabit te os tuum , et non ego : et labia tua respondebunt tibi .
Your own mouth condemns you, and not I. Yes, your own lips testify against you.
你自己的口定你有罪,並非是我; 你自己的嘴見證你的不是。

Numquid primus homo tu natus es , et ante colles formatus ?
“Are you the first man who was born? Or were you brought out before the hills?
你豈是頭一個被生的人嗎? 你受造在諸山之先嗎?

numquid consilium Dei audisti , et inferior te erit ejus sapientia ?
Have you heard the secret counsel of God? Do you limit wisdom to yourself?
你曾聽見上帝的密旨嗎? 你還將智慧獨自得盡嗎?

Quid nosti quod ignoremus ? quid intelligis quod nesciamus ?
What do you know that we don’t know? What do you understand which is not in us?
你知道甚麼是我們不知道的呢? 你明白甚麼是我們不明白的呢?

Et senes et antiqui sunt in nobis , multo vetustiores quam patres tui .
With us are both the gray-headed and the very aged men, much older than your father.
我們這裏有白髮的和年紀老邁的, 比你父親還老。

Numquid grande est ut consoletur te Deus ? sed verba tua prava hoc prohibent .
Are the consolations of God too small for you, even the word that is gentle toward you?
上帝用溫和的話安慰你, 你以為太小嗎?

Quid te elevat cor tuum , et quasi magna cogitans attonitos habes oculos ?
Why does your heart carry you away? Why do your eyes flash,
你的心為何將你逼去? 你的眼為何冒出火星,

Quid tumet contra Deum spiritus tuus , ut proferas de ore tuo hujuscemodi sermones ?
that you turn your spirit against God, and let such words go out of your mouth?
使你的靈反對上帝, 也任你的口發這言語?

Quid est homo ut immaculatus sit , et ut justus appareat natus de muliere ?
What is man, that he should be clean? What is he who is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?
人是甚麼,竟算為潔淨呢? 婦人所生的是甚麼,竟算為義呢?

Ecce inter sanctos ejus nemo immutabilis , et caeli non sunt mundi in conspectu ejus .
Behold, he puts no trust in his holy ones. Yes, the heavens are not clean in his sight;
上帝不信靠他的眾聖者; 在他眼前,天也不潔淨,
15:16▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
Quanto magis abominabilis et inutilis homo , qui bibit quasi aquam iniquitatem ?
how much less one who is abominable and corrupt, a man who drinks iniquity like water!
何況那污穢可憎、 喝罪孽如水的世人呢!

Ostendam tibi : audi me : quod vidi , narrabo tibi .
“I will show you, listen to me; that which I have seen I will declare
我指示你,你要聽; 我要述說所看見的,

Sapientes confitentur , et non abscondunt patres suos :
(which wise men have told by their fathers, and have not hidden it;
就是智慧人從列祖所受, 傳說而不隱瞞的。 (

quibus solis data est terra , et non transivit alienus per eos .
to whom alone the land was given, and no stranger passed among them):
這地惟獨賜給他們, 並沒有外人從他們中間經過。)

Cunctis diebus suis impius superbit , et numerus annorum incertus est tyrannidis ejus .
the wicked man writhes in pain all his days, even the number of years that are laid up for the oppressor.
惡人一生之日劬勞痛苦; 強暴人一生的年數也是如此。

Sonitus terroris semper in auribus illius : et cum pax sit , ille semper insidias suspicatur .
A sound of terrors is in his ears. In prosperity the destroyer will come on him.
驚嚇的聲音常在他耳中; 在平安時,搶奪的必臨到他那裏。

Non credit quod reverti possit de tenebris ad lucem , circumspectans undique gladium .
He doesn’t believe that he will return out of darkness. He is waited for by the sword.
他不信自己能從黑暗中轉回; 他被刀劍等候。
15:23▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
Cum se moverit ad quaerendum panem , novit quod paratus sit in manu ejus tenebrarum dies .
He wanders abroad for bread, saying, ‘Where is it?’ He knows that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.
他漂流在外求食,說:哪裏有食物呢? 他知道黑暗的日子在他手邊預備好了。

Terrebit eum tribulatio , et angustia vallabit eum , sicut regem qui praeparatur ad praelium .
Distress and anguish make him afraid. They prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle.
急難困苦叫他害怕, 而且勝了他,好像君王預備上陣一樣。

Tetendit enim adversus Deum manum suam , et contra Omnipotentem roboratus est .
Because he has stretched out his hand against God, and behaves himself proudly against the Almighty,
他伸手攻擊上帝, 以驕傲攻擊全能者,

Cucurrit adversus eum erecto collo , et pingui cervice armatus est .
he runs at him with a stiff neck, with the thick shields of his bucklers,
挺着頸項, 用盾牌的厚凸面向全能者直闖;

Operuit faciem ejus crassitudo , et de lateribus ejus arvina dependet .
because he has covered his face with his fatness, and gathered fat on his thighs.
是因他的臉蒙上脂油, 腰積成肥肉。

Habitavit in civitatibus desolatis , et in domibus desertis , quae in tumulos sunt redactae .
He has lived in desolate cities, in houses which no one inhabited, which were ready to become heaps.
他曾住在荒涼城邑, 無人居住、將成亂堆的房屋。

Non ditabitur , nec perseverabit substantia ejus , nec mittet in terra radicem suam .
He will not be rich, neither will his substance continue, neither will their possessions be extended on the earth.
他不得富足,財物不得常存, 產業在地上也不加增。
15:30▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
Non recedet de tenebris : ramos ejus arefaciet flamma , et auferetur spiritu oris sui .
He will not depart out of darkness. The flame will dry up his branches. He will go away by the breath of God’s mouth.
他不得出離黑暗。 火焰要將他的枝子燒乾; 因上帝口中的氣,他要滅亡 。

Non credet , frustra errore deceptus , quod aliquo pretio redimendus sit .
Let him not trust in emptiness, deceiving himself, for emptiness will be his reward.
他不用倚靠虛假欺哄自己, 因虛假必成為他的報應。

Antequam dies ejus impleantur peribit , et manus ejus arescent .
It will be accomplished before his time. His branch will not be green.
他的日期未到之先,這事必成就; 他的枝子不得青綠。
15:33▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
Laedetur quasi vinea in primo flore botrus ejus , et quasi oliva projiciens florem suum .
He will shake off his unripe grape as the vine, and will cast off his flower as the olive tree.
他必像葡萄樹的葡萄,未熟而落; 又像橄欖樹的花,一開而謝。

Congregatio enim hypocritae sterilis , et ignis devorabit tabernacula eorum qui munera libenter accipiunt .
For the company of the godless will be barren, and fire will consume the tents of bribery.
原來不敬虔之輩必無生育; 受賄賂之人的帳棚必被火燒。

Concepit dolorem , et peperit iniquitatem , et uterus ejus praeparat dolos .
They conceive mischief and produce iniquity. Their heart prepares deceit.”
他們所懷的是毒害,所生的是罪孽; 心裏所預備的是詭詐。
