Homo natus de muliere , brevi vivens tempore , repletur multis miseriis .
“Man, who is born of a woman, is of few days, and full of trouble.
人為婦人所生, 日子短少,多有患難;
14:2▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
Qui quasi flos egreditur et conteritur , et fugit velut umbra , et numquam in eodem statu permanet .
He grows up like a flower, and is cut down. He also flees like a shadow, and doesn’t continue.
出來如花,又被割下, 飛去如影,不能存留。

Et dignum ducis super hujuscemodi aperire oculos tuos , et adducere eum tecum in judicium ?
Do you open your eyes on such a one, and bring me into judgment with you?
這樣的人你豈睜眼看他嗎? 又叫我來受審嗎?

Quis potest facere mundum de immundo conceptum semine ? nonne tu qui solus es ?
Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? Not one.
誰能使潔淨之物出於污穢之中呢? 無論誰也不能!

Breves dies hominis sunt : numerus mensium ejus apud te est : constituisti terminos ejus , qui praeteriri non poterunt .
Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months is with you, and you have appointed his bounds that he can’t pass.
人的日子既然限定, 他的月數在你那裏, 你也派定他的界限,使他不能越過,

Recede paululum ab eo , ut quiescat , donec optata veniat , sicut mercenarii , dies ejus .
Look away from him, that he may rest, until he accomplishes, as a hireling, his day.
便求你轉眼不看他,使他得歇息, 直等他像雇工人完畢他的日子。

Lignum habet spem : si praecisum fuerit , rursum virescit , et rami ejus pullulant .
“For there is hope for a tree if it is cut down, that it will sprout again, that the tender branch of it will not cease.
樹若被砍下, 還可指望發芽, 嫩枝生長不息;

Si senuerit in terra radix ejus , et in pulvere emortuus fuerit truncus illius ,
Though its root grows old in the earth, and its stock dies in the ground,
其根雖然衰老在地裏, 幹也死在土中,

ad odorem aquae germinabit , et faciet comam , quasi cum primum plantatum est .
yet through the scent of water it will bud, and sprout boughs like a plant.
及至得了水氣,還要發芽, 又長枝條,像新栽的樹一樣。

Homo vero cum mortuus fuerit , et nudatus , atque consumptus , ubi , quaeso , est ?
But man dies, and is laid low. Yes, man gives up the spirit, and where is he?
但人死亡而消滅; 他氣絕,竟在何處呢?

Quomodo si recedant aquae de mari , et fluvius vacuefactus arescat :
As the waters fail from the sea, and the river wastes and dries up,
海中的水絕盡, 江河消散乾涸。
14:12▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
sic homo , cum dormierit , non resurget : donec atteratur caelum , non evigilabit , nec consurget de somno suo .
so man lies down and doesn’t rise. Until the heavens are no more, they will not awake, nor be roused out of their sleep.
人也是如此,躺下不再起來, 等到天沒有了,仍不得復醒, 也不得從睡中喚醒。

Quis mihi hoc tribuat , ut in inferno protegas me , et abscondas me donec pertranseat furor tuus , et constituas mihi tempus in quo recorderis mei ?
“Oh that you would hide me in Sheol, that you would keep me secret until your wrath is past, that you would appoint me a set time and remember me!
惟願你把我藏在陰間, 存於隱密處,等你的忿怒過去; 願你為我定了日期,記念我。

Putasne mortuus homo rursum vivat ? cunctis diebus quibus nunc milito , expecto donec veniat immutatio mea .
If a man dies, will he live again? I would wait all the days of my warfare, until my release should come.
人若死了豈能再活呢? 我只要在我一切爭戰的日子, 等我被釋放 的時候來到。

Vocabis me , et ego respondebo tibi : operi manuum tuarum porriges dexteram .
You would call, and I would answer you. You would have a desire for the work of your hands.
你呼叫,我便回答; 你手所做的,你必羨慕。

Tu quidem gressus meos dinumerasti : sed parce peccatis meis .
But now you count my steps. Don’t you watch over my sin?
但如今你數點我的腳步, 豈不窺察我的罪過嗎?

Signasti quasi in sacculo delicta mea , sed curasti iniquitatem meam .
My disobedience is sealed up in a bag. You fasten up my iniquity.
我的過犯被你封在囊中, 也縫嚴了我的罪孽。

Mons cadens defluit , et saxum transfertur de loco suo :
“But the mountain falling comes to nothing. The rock is removed out of its place.
山崩變為無有; 磐石挪開原處。
14:19▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
lapides excavant aquae , et alluvione paulatim terra consumitur : et hominem ergo similiter perdes .
The waters wear the stones. The torrents of it wash away the dust of the earth. So you destroy the hope of man.
水流消磨石頭, 所流溢的洗去地上的塵土; 你也照樣滅絕人的指望。
14:20▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
Roborasti eum paululum , ut in perpetuum transiret : immutabis faciem ejus , et emittes eum .
You forever prevail against him, and he departs. You change his face, and send him away.
你攻擊人常常得勝,使他去世; 你改變他的容貌,叫他往而不回。

Sive nobiles fuerint filii ejus , sive ignobiles , non intelliget .
His sons come to honor, and he doesn’t know it. They are brought low, but he doesn’t perceive it of them.
他兒子得尊榮,他也不知道, 降為卑,他也不覺得。
14:22▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
Attamen caro ejus , dum vivet , dolebit , et anima illius super semetipso lugebit .
But his flesh on him has pain, and his soul within him mourns.”
但知身上疼痛, 心中悲哀。
