Respondens autem Eliphaz Themanites , dixit :
Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered,
提幔人以利法回答說:

Si coeperimus loqui tibi , forsitan moleste accipies ; sed conceptum sermonem tenere quis poterit ?
“If someone ventures to talk with you, will you be grieved? But who can withhold himself from speaking?
人若想與你說話,你就厭煩嗎? 但誰能忍住不說呢?

Ecce docuisti multos , et manus lassas roborasti ;
Behold, you have instructed many, you have strengthened the weak hands.
你素來教導許多的人, 又堅固軟弱的手。
4:4▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
vacillantes confirmaverunt sermones tui , et genua trementia confortasti .
Your words have supported him who was falling, you have made the feeble knees firm.
你的言語曾扶助那將要跌倒的人; 你又使軟弱的膝穩固。
4:5▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
Nunc autem venit super te plaga , et defecisti ; tetigit te , et conturbatus es .
But now it has come to you, and you faint. It touches you, and you are troubled.
但現在禍患臨到你,你就昏迷, 挨近你,你便驚惶。

Ubi est timor tuus , fortitudo tua , patientia tua , et perfectio viarum tuarum ?
Isn’t your piety your confidence? Isn’t the integrity of your ways your hope?
你的倚靠不是在你敬畏上帝嗎? 你的盼望不是在你行事純正嗎?

Recordare , obsecro te , quis umquam innocens periit ? aut quando recti deleti sunt ?
“Remember, now, who ever perished, being innocent? Or where were the upright cut off?
請你追想:無辜的人有誰滅亡? 正直的人在何處剪除?

Quin potius vidi eos qui operantur iniquitatem , et seminant dolores , et metunt eos ,
According to what I have seen, those who plow iniquity and sow trouble, reap the same.
按我所見,耕罪孽、種毒害的人 都照樣收割。

flante Deo perisse , et spiritu irae ejus esse consumptos .
By the breath of God they perish. By the blast of his anger are they consumed.
上帝一出氣,他們就滅亡; 上帝一發怒,他們就消沒。

Rugitus leonis , et vox leaenae , et dentes catulorum leonum contriti sunt .
The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, the teeth of the young lions, are broken.
獅子的吼叫和猛獅的聲音盡都止息; 少壯獅子的牙齒也都敲掉。

Tigris periit , eo quod non haberet praedam , et catuli leonis dissipati sunt .
The old lion perishes for lack of prey. The cubs of the lioness are scattered abroad.
老獅子因絕食而死; 母獅之子也都離散。

Porro ad me dictum est verbum absconditum , et quasi furtive suscepit auris mea venas susurri ejus .
“Now a thing was secretly brought to me. My ear received a whisper of it.
我暗暗地得了默示; 我耳朵也聽其細微的聲音。

In horrore visionis nocturnae , quando solet sopor occupare homines ,
In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falls on men,
在思念夜中、異象之間, 世人沉睡的時候,

pavor tenuit me , et tremor , et omnia ossa mea perterrita sunt ;
fear came on me, and trembling, which made all my bones shake.
恐懼、戰兢臨到我身, 使我百骨打戰。

et cum spiritus , me praesente , transiret , inhorruerunt pili carnis meae .
Then a spirit passed before my face. The hair of my flesh stood up.
有靈從我面前經過, 我身上的毫毛直立。
4:16▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
Stetit quidam , cujus non agnoscebam vultum , imago coram oculis meis , et vocem quasi aurae lenis audivi .
It stood still, but I couldn’t discern its appearance. A form was before my eyes. Silence, then I heard a voice, saying,
那靈停住, 我卻不能辨其形狀; 有影像在我眼前。 我在靜默中聽見有聲音說:

Numquid homo , Dei comparatione , justificabitur ? aut factore suo purior erit vir ?
‘Shall mortal man be more just than God? Shall a man be more pure than his Maker?
必死的人豈能比上帝公義嗎? 人豈能比造他的主潔淨嗎?

Ecce qui serviunt ei , non sunt stabiles , et in angelis suis reperit pravitatem ;
Behold, he puts no trust in his servants. He charges his angels with error.
主不信靠他的臣僕, 並且指他的使者為愚昧;
4:19▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
quanto magis hi qui habitant domos luteas , qui terrenum habent fundamentum , consumentur velut a tinea ?
How much more those who dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed before the moth!
何況那住在土房、根基在塵土裏、 被蠹蟲所毀壞的人呢?
4:20▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
De mane usque ad vesperam succidentur ; et quia nullus intelligit , in aeternum peribunt .
Between morning and evening they are destroyed. They perish forever without any regarding it.
早晚之間,就被毀滅, 永歸無有,無人理會。
4:21▷ ⧉ ⤴︎
Qui autem reliqui fuerint , auferentur ex eis ; morientur , et non in sapientia .
Isn’t their tent cord plucked up within them? They die, and that without wisdom.’
他帳棚的繩索豈不從中抽出來呢? 他死,且是無智慧而死。
