And he found the writings that had been written concerning Mordecai, how he had reported to the king about the king's two eunuchs, when they were on guard and sought to lay hands on Artaxerxes.
And while the king was inquiring about Mordecai's goodwill, behold, Haman was in the courtyard. And the king said: Who is in the courtyard? Now Haman had come in to tell the king to hang Mordecai on the wood which he had prepared.
And the king said to Haman: What shall I do for the man whom I wish to honour? And Haman said within himself: Whom does the king wish to honour if not me?
and let him give them to one of the king's honoured friends, and let him robe the man whom the king loves, and set him upon the horse, and proclaim through the open street of the city, saying: Thus shall it be done for every man whom the king honours.
And the king said to Haman: As you have spoken, so do for Mordecai the Jew who serves in the courtyard; and let not one word of all that you have spoken fall to the ground.
So Haman took the robe and the horse, and robed Mordecai and set him upon the horse, and went through the open street of the city and proclaimed, saying: Thus shall it be done for every man whom the king wishes to honour.
And Haman recounted to Zosara his wife and to his friends all that had befallen him. And his friends and his wife said to him: If Mordecai is of the race of the Jews, and you have begun to be humbled before him, you will surely fall; you will not be able to defend yourself against him, because a living God is with him.
