Philip, indeed—whom from the words of Dionysius we have come to know as bishop of the community in Gortyna—himself also composed a most diligent work against Marcion; and so likewise did Irenaeus and Modestus, who beyond the rest especially exposed the man's error so as to make it plain to all; and many others besides, whose labours are still preserved to this day among very many of the brethren.
