About the twelfth year of the reign of Trajan, the bishop of the diocese of Alexandria, whom we mentioned a little earlier, departed this life, and Primus, the fourth from the apostles, was allotted the ministry of that place. At this time also Alexander received the bishopric at Rome, being the fifth in succession from Peter and Paul, after his predecessor had completed his eighth year.
