📖 This chapter exists in 3 other originals — side by side (Hebrew Old Testament, Vulgate, Ge'ez Bible)
ℹ️ This corpus has no verse-level morphological tagging. Lemmas come mainly from word-level tagging of other books in the same language (not from this verse), falling back to dictionary form-matching for the rest. Rare homographs can still be misread; verify against the original and a specialist lexicon where precision matters.
ℹ️ The Chinese and English alongside are this site's own translation, made directly from the original text on this page (not the CUV or the WEB, which follow the Masoretic Text and a different textual tradition).

But when they could no longer hide him, his mother took a basket for him and coated it with bitumen-pitch, and put the child into it, and set it in the marsh by the river.
Then the daughter of Pharao came down to the river to bathe, and her maids were walking alongside the river. And seeing the basket in the marsh, she sent her maid and took it up.
And when she had opened it she sees a child weeping in the basket; and the daughter of Pharao spared him and said, “This is one of the children of the Hebrews.”
And his sister said to the daughter of Pharao, “Do you want me to call for you a nursing woman from among the Hebrews, and she will suckle the child for you?”
And the daughter of Pharao said to her, “Keep this child for me and suckle him for me, and I will give you your wages.” So the woman took the child and suckled him.
And when the child had grown, she brought him to the daughter of Pharao, and he became a son to her. And she named him Moyses, saying, “I took him up out of the water.”
Now it happened in those many days that Moyses, having grown up, went out to his brothers the sons of Israel. And observing their toil, he sees an Egyptian man beating a certain Hebrew of his own brothers, the sons of Israel.
But he said, “Who appointed you ruler and judge over us? Do you want to kill me in the way you killed the Egyptian yesterday?” And Moyses was afraid and said, “So this matter has become known.”
And Pharao heard this matter and sought to kill Moyses; but Moyses withdrew from the presence of Pharao and dwelt in the land of Madiam. And coming into the land of Madiam, he sat down by the well.
Now the priest of Madiam had seven daughters, who were shepherding the sheep of their father Iothor. And when they arrived they drew water until they had filled the troughs, to water the sheep of their father Iothor.
Now after those many days the king of Egypt died, and the sons of Israel groaned because of the works and cried out; and their cry went up to God because of the works.
