📖 This chapter exists in 3 other originals — side by side (Hebrew Old Testament, Vulgate, Ge'ez Bible)
ℹ️ This corpus has no verse-level morphological tagging. Lemmas come mainly from word-level tagging of other books in the same language (not from this verse), falling back to dictionary form-matching for the rest. Rare homographs can still be misread; verify against the original and a specialist lexicon where precision matters.
ℹ️ The Chinese and English alongside are this site's own translation, made directly from the original text on this page (not the CUV or the WEB, which follow the Masoretic Text and a different textual tradition).

For all this I gave into my heart, and my heart saw all this: that the righteous and the wise and their works are in the hand of God; and also love, and also hatred, man does not know; all things are before their face.
Vanity is in all things: one event comes to the righteous and to the ungodly, to the good and to the evil, and to the clean and to the unclean, and to him who sacrifices and to him who does not sacrifice; as is the good, so is the sinner; as is he who swears, so is he who fears an oath.
This is an evil in all that has been done under the sun: that one event comes to all; and also the heart of the sons of man is filled with evil, and madness is in their heart during their life, and after that they go to the dead.
Their love also, and their hatred also, and their jealousy also, have already perished; and they no longer have any portion for ever in all that has been done under the sun.
See life with the woman whom you loved, all the days of your life of vanity that were given you under the sun, all the days of your vanity; for that is your portion in your life and in your toil with which you toil under the sun.
I turned and saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the mighty, nor yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to the intelligent, nor yet favour to those who have knowledge; for time and chance will meet them all.
For man also does not know his time. As fish that are caught in an evil net, and as birds that are caught in a snare, so the sons of man are snared at an evil time, when it falls upon them suddenly.
